6D5N Bukit Lawang Tangkahan Tour – Tangkahan is a small rural settlement on the edge of the Gunung Leuser National Park. It is more isolated than Bukit Lawang and has not been developed to the same extent. Get up close and personal with Sumatra’s largest animal, the Sumatran elephant. One of four Asian elephant subspecies, only around 2000 Sumatran elephant survives and they are high risk of extinction. Experience the beautiful scenery of the rivers cape on the edge of the jungle.
Tangkahan is combinations of vegetation and topography makes it a marvelous tourist tangkahan 5spot rarely found elsewhere. It is a small village on the border of Gunung Leuser National Park located in North Sumatra, situated at the junction of 2 rivers, the Buluh River and the Batang River. Tangkahan specialized in eco-tourism activities, converging exactly in this zone, are typical of rainforest streams, with diverse varieties of vegetation and colorful rocks and Sumatra Elephants on their banks. The clear, bluish green river water againts the panoramic view creates a mystical atmosphere.
Bukit Lawang or known also as Bohorok is for the adventurous, accessible through Sumatra’s inland wilderness, crossing rivers and going over steep hills. The area lies south of the Mount Leuser National Park, a rehabilitation center for Orang Utans in Bahorok, which was inaugurated in 1973. Orangutans living here are of Sumatra and Kalimantan origin. Seeing the orangutans is a magical experience. In Bukit Lawang, you can usually see them near the rehabilitation centre and at the feeding platform during the morning and afternoon feeding sessions. In Ketambe, you can go to 1-7 days treks into the jungle. The best experience is an encounter in the jungle where there are many semi-wild and wild animals. The wild orangutan can be difficult to spot unless you go deep into the jungle. There are also white and black gibbons that make an amazing noise calling out to each other, and Thomas Leaf monkeys. If you are lucky, you may be able to see hornbills, toucans, moon snakes, monitor lizards.

DAY 1 : FROM KUALANAMU AIRPORT TO MEDAN

DAY 2 : MEDAN TO BUKIT LAWANG
in the morning drive to bukit lawang the observation point of the orangutans located in gunung leuser national park through by landscape with vast view of palm oil and rubber plantation. en-route stops at of rubber, oil palm and cacao plantations with some countryside landscape.
DAY 3 : BUKIT LAWANG TOUR – JUNGLE TREKKING
after breakfast, today you will do the jungle trekking for 6 hours to explore the park. this involves a walk through the jungle to reach the feeding grounds of the orang utan. steep, slopes and dense vegetation will bring you the excitement of the rainforest. in this tropical primary rainforest, you can see the varieties of birds, butterflies, siamang (long arm apes), different kinds of reptiles. the rest is your own program, you can swim or take a beautiful walk to the local village nearby.
DAY 4 : BUKIT LAWANG TO TANGKAHAN
after breakfast, traverse bumpy roads to reach the small jungle community of tangkahan. you will be fetched by a local jeep for your off road trip to tangkahan (approximately 2h to 2 hours 30 minutes) passing through rubber plantations and with beautiful jungle and mountain landscapes at the horizon. arriving in tangkahan, you will cross over the batang river by local raft to the lodge inn. 2 overnight stays in tangkahan.
DAY 5 : TANGKAHAN ELEPHANT TREKKING
after breakfast, you visit the elephant camp where you can see the elephant bathing. you can join to wash the elephants. after that you start trekking with elephants for 1 hour to explore part of the leuser national park. the rest is your own program. you can walk along the bank of the buluh river, is to see thousand beautiful butterflies by the river, visiting and bathing at the small waterfall in the rainforest close to the river and or swimming in buluh river itself.
DAY 6 : TANGKAHAN TO MEDAN
after breakfast, free program at your own. then drive back to medan, proceed to the airport for catch your flight to next destination. Horas & mauliate.
